I’ve just taken a week off to enjoy the beautiful scenery and weather of Croatia.
If you’ve never been, I thoroughly recommend it for a lazy relaxing break. We stayed on the small island of Hvar. In late September the sea and skies were bright blue and the air temperature a balmy 24c everyday.
After a day or two of sun lounging and swimming in the sea, we thought it would be fun to get ON the water and visit some of the many islands around. The harbour in Hvar town is lined with boats large and small all offering day trips – so which to choose? Every boat had an A board with colourful photos, leaflets & special offers. The one that stood out (and we eventually picked, of course) had cleverly erected a small video screen on the quayside. The short video showing where the trip went, entering the Blue Cave, people relaxing on board before swimming and then tucking into a delicious lunch were compelling viewing. The trip was booked there and then, a great example of video marketing in action.
So many UK high street businesses could benefit from video marketing too – restaurants showing food being prepared in their kitchens, sports club displaying their gymnasiums in action, the cutting skills of hairdressers, craft shops showing how their wares are designed and made… the list is endless.
The Croatian tourist board was using the potential of video marketing too. On the catamaran ferries that take holidaymakers to and from the islands there were tempting pictures of local cuisine, stunning scenery and historic buildings. There was a captive audience on board and as the boats make several trips a day each video must be seen hundreds of times over the year.
A clever idea making sure that visitors return to this part of the Adriatic.
We certainly will – that’s for sure.
